Job Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The School of Education (SOE) in the College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University invites applications for a term faculty position in Elementary Literacy at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. We seek a dynamic, innovative, and enthusiastic colleague who will collaborate with current faculty in the design, instruction, and leadership of literacy courses for early childhood education and elementary education teacher preparation programs. This individual will teach undergraduate courses in primary and intermediate literacy pedagogy for early childhood and elementary education educator preparation programs. The individual in this position will also provide instruction in content/pedagogy courses required for the K-8 and 5-12 Reading Endorsement. This individual will serve as the course lead for the primary literacy pedagogy course, collaborating with the course lead of the intermediate literacy pedagogy course and supporting the graduate teaching assistants and lecturers/part-time term faculty assigned to teach sections of this course in order to ensure equity in learning outcomes and opportunities and vertical and horizontal articulation as part of the Educator Preparation Program. This position’s term is for one year with possibility of renewal.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

-Graduate degree in education or a closely related field

-Completion of an educator preparation program and successful licensure/certification in elementary education

-Minimum of three years teaching experience in K-6 reading

-Evidence of a clear social justice stance and equity lens in their teaching and evidence of commitment to equity in education

Preferred Qualifications:

-Graduate degree or specialization area in literacy

-K-8 reading endorsement and experience in teaching primary literacy

-Successful teaching experience in a teacher preparation program or at the post-secondary level

-Experience working in/with preparation of elementary school teachers

-Experience providing professional development to practice educators

-Terminal degree in literacy or a closely related field
