Work Hours scheduled between 8:00AM-5:00PM, Monday-Friday. However evenings and weekend hours are necessary to accommodate the needs of participants.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Human Sciences Extension and Outreach with Iowa State University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Extension Program Assistant I.

The position assists in conducting extension education programs in homes or community centers by extending information to limited resource families with children. Topics shared include meal planning, food budgeting, cooking and ways to increase physical activity and improve nutrition.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Prepares and presents lessons from a standardized curriculum to individuals or small groups. 2. Visits clientele within specifically identified audiences to involve them in individual or small group learning experiences. 3. Extends information through a variety of methods such as demonstrations, pamphlets, seminars, etc. to clientele within specifically identified audiences. 4. Actively recruits program participants. 5. Maintains appropriate records of participants’ progress and prepares reports. 6. Assists clientele by providing information on resources available in the community and making referrals. 7. Makes arrangements for meeting facilities, sets dates and times for classes, collects and organizes educational materials, and makes appointments with participants. 8. Participates in regular conferences and training as scheduled.

This position requires modeling of healthy diet and exercise behaviors. The duties of this position require the ability to keep accurate records, communicate effectively with a variety of people, and speak and write in English.

Demonstrated knowledge in the area of nutrition.

Demonstrates knowledge or experience with community agencies.

Experience that demonstrates modeling healthy behaviors.

Experience that demonstrates learning and using technology.

Demonstrated ability to speak Spanish fluently.

Additional Information

This position serves Polk County and is based in Altoona, Iowa.

The duties of this position will require access to reliable transportation.
