Renewable Energy Group Intern, Accounting in Ames, Iowa

Our comprehensive, 12-week paid internship program gives you the opportunity to test your skills working for the nation’s leading producer of cleaner fuels and developer of renewable chemicals. This internship will begin May 17, 2021 and end August 7, 2021. REG values our interns. Our hopes are to host you in person, but with the potential of being remote like we committed to in the summer of 2020.


The purpose of this position is to assist with general ledger duties and special projects while assuring compliance with company policies and procedures. This position is also responsible for consistently applying valid accounting principles to achieve financial accountability.


General Ledger

•Provide support in regular and timely reconciliation of accounts to ensure accuracy

•Assist with monthly accruals and the closing of books

•Coordinate reconciliation of perpetual inventory to physical measurements on a regular basis (month-end physical measurements, cycle counts, etc.)

Day-to-Day Activities

•Support accounts payable personnel with processing of vendor invoices and cash disbursements

•Monitor daily entry of inventory transactions to ensure accurate and timely records for biodiesel locations

Other frequent duties:

•Assist special projects as needed

Perform other duties as assigned


Be available for daily work and overtime as required

Communicate effectively with customers and co-workers (oral and written)

Demonstrate attention to detail

Ability to use office equipment (computer, copy/fax machine, telephone, postage meter, etc.)

Organize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meeting deadlines

Provide suggestions to offer alternative perspectives to situations

Work independently or with others as a team to complete assigned projects

Ability to perform algebraic and logic calculations

Collect, analyze and organize information into a logical and efficient format to support economic and efficiency analyses

Provide personal contact information on an as needed basis for official business purposes


Education Required: Pursuing a bachelor’s degree – Accounting, or related degree

**Senior or Junior status required

Experience Required: Business environment experience, relevant courses, club participation and internship preferred

Skills Required:

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word)

Advanced math and accounting skills

Special skills or knowledge preferred:

Advanced Excel skills (Pivot table, Macros, Advanced Excel Functions)
