Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a Research Assistant (Program Assistant II) to work within the Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine (VDPAM) department in Ames, Iowa. The VDPAM department is dedicated to the overall mission of the ISU College of Veterinary Medicine to enhance the health and well-being of animals and human beings through excellence in education, research, professional practice and committed service to the State of Iowa, the nation and the world, with a specific commitment to the continual improvement of food animal agriculture and food supply veterinary medicine.

This position will be offered as a six-month term position, and is responsible for conducting research reviews on factors associated with antibiotic use and antibiotic efficacy in livestock. The position involves conducting literature searches, all the steps associated with the review and interpretation of scientific literature, including conducting, interpreting and extraction of data from a wide range of publications. The position will work with other members of the team on aspects of systematic literature review (SLR) research projects with guidance from senior staff. The position is office based and involves a large amount of scientific reading and writing.

The successful candidate will possess moderate to advanced skills navigating computer programs and scientific databases. The successful candidate will also have attention to detail, accuracy and timely reporting, as well as individual judgement that is exercised in a competent manner. The ability to exert initiative and make effective decisions when further guidance is temporarily available and the ability to communicate effectively with written and spoken English is essential to the success in the position.

Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of related experience; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 5 years unless otherwise specified under supplemental required education and experience. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position.
