Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Memorial Union (MU) at Iowa State University is seeking applicants for a Major Programs Coordinator. This position will serve as the primary adviser to numerous major event planning student organizations which includes Dance Marathon – ISU’s largest philanthropic student organization with nearly 200 active executive board and committee members; ISU AfterDark – late-night, substance free alternative program with over 12,000 annual participants; and WinterFest and Cyclone Carnival – large scale programs for campus and Ames community. In addition to advising the students in these planning organizations, this position will be responsible for over $300,000 in operating budgets and all marketing and promotion for these events. This position will also oversee the social media accounts for the Student Activities Center and help coordinate office related outreach events. This position will establish and maintain collaborative relationships with a variety of student organizations, Division of Student Affairs, campus departments, community agencies, entertainment agencies, area businesses, local press, faculty and alumni.

The successful candidate will need effective interpersonal skills oral and written communication skills; ability to work with a diverse student body, faculty, staff and general public within a team environment; ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; and knowledge of live entertainment events.

The 316,713 square foot multipurpose facility is the center for student life, co-curricular activities, and serves as a meeting place for the campus and the local community. The MU opened in 1928, and since then, 11 additions have been made to all sides of the original structure to meet student needs. Operations include a dining center, 600-stall parking ramp, the Student Activities Center, a bowling center, an art studio, a live music venue, and 27 meeting and event spaces. The MU facility operates 24 hours per day with multiple university units that provide service to over 2 million users annually.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 6 years unless otherwise specified under supplemental required education and experience. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position.
