Job Description:

Iowa State University is currently seeking qualified applicants for a TRIO Talent Search Advisor position, which will be classified as a Program Specialist I. TRIO Talent Search is a federally funded grant program through the U.S. Department of Education serving students from underrepresented backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The goal of Talent Search is to increase the number of first generation and income-eligible students who graduate high school and continue on to complete postsecondary education.

The Talent Search Advisor provides academic, career, and financial counseling to participating students through regular meetings and group sessions. The position will develop and lead workshops, organize weekly visits to target schools, plan and supervise college and career visits, and assist high school juniors and seniors with the college admissions process including filing the FAFSA and applying for financial aid. Advisors will also administer and evaluate annual needs assessments and interest inventories to all participants, maintain confidential records of assigned students, and review transcripts to ensure academic readiness for college admission.

The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience working with youth. This individual will also be detail oriented and have the ability to work effectively as a team member. All staff members are expected to interact collegially and maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethics.

The position is based at Iowa State University with weekly travel required to meet students, families of participants, and school staff members at middle and high schools in Fort Dodge and Perry. This may take place during occasional nights and weekends throughout the academic year as well as summer months.

This is a fixed term position with an end date of 8/31/2026, with the opportunity for renewal.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
