Job Title: Lead Quality Control Inspector

Department Produce

FSLA: Non-Exempt

General Function

Receives, inspects, and accepts only the highest quality produce Monitors product on hand and ensures freshness is maintained Prepares reports and communicates with produce purchasing department.

Reporting Relations:

Accountable and Reports to: Warehouse Manager, Perishable; Department Manager, Perishable; Assistant Department Manager/Perishable

Positions that Report to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitors merchandise on hand and ensures freshness is maintained.

  • Controls the ripening of fruit and vegetables.

  • Inspects inbound perishable product.

  • Prepares reports on soft fruit, bananas, and aged inventory.

  • Works with receivers to ensure quality of merchandise.

  • Takes calls at home as needed.

  • Reports to work when scheduled and works the expected number of hours.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs special inspections when requested by buyers.

  • Assists in training of warehouse employees in quality control.

  • Adjusts computer inventory of on hand balance when necessary.

  • Performs other job related duties and special projects as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

  • Logical or scientific thinking to solve problems; several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Must be able to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.

  • Possess the ability to compose original correspondence; follow technical manuals; and have increased contact with people.

Education and Experience:

High school or equivalent experience. Previous experience in fresh produce helpful Over one year up to three years of similar or related work experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be physically able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently, and 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects

  • Visual requirements include clarity of vision at 20 inches or less up to 20 feet or more with or without correction; color vision; depth perception; and field of vision.

  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities Climbing, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing.

Working Conditions:

The duties for this position are normally conducted in a warehouse environment There is constant pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks in a day There is possible exposure to dirt, noise, temperature extremes, dampness, and equipment movement hazards.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

Telephone, computers, push cart with ladder, thermometer, knife, calculator, and warehouse equipment.

Supervisory Responsibility:

None

Financial Responsibility:

Judgement on products received could cost us up to $50,000.

Contacts:

Occasional contact with store personnel, suppliers/vendors, and warehouse personnel.

Confidentiality:

Has access to confidential information including knowledge of advertisements, credits, and merchandise costs.
