Snyder & Associates Traffic Engineer in Ankeny, Iowa

The Traffic Engineer is responsible for completing assigned tasks under the supervision of the Team Leader, Project Manager or more experienced engineers. This position is expected to apply the concepts learned through required education, prior professional experience and new training to perform traffic and transportation analysis and design tasks as assigned. Provides guidance and may direct the activities of technical staff in completion of assigned work.

  • Completes field observation, inspectionof construction activities and data collection equipment setup duties as directed by senior engineering staff.

  • Performs traffic, safety and GIS analyses and design using relevant software and CADD technology.

  • Prepares written reports, memoranda, project specifications and budget level or engineering cost opinions.

  • Works with design technicians in order to complete mapping, exhibits, design details and plan sets.

  • Communicates with client staff and internal project team as directed by senior engineering staff.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must possess a bachelor’s (B.S.) or master’s degree (M.S.) in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year or graduate engineering university with particular emphasis on Traffic/Transportation.

  • Must have the desire to work on traffic/transportation related projects including analysis and modeling in a team setting.

  • Two (2) or more years of related engineering experienceor a Masters degree is preferred in the public or private sector.

  • Working knowledge of office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, One Note, etc.) required. CAD software and other engineering automation tools experience is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of traffic engineering software like HCS, Synchro, SIDRA, VISSIM, TransModeler, Iowa Crash Analysis Tool, Highway Safety Manual software or similar analysis and modeling tools a plus.

  • Effective writing, verbal and presentation communication skills also preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

Must have received, or receive within 1 year of hire, be working towards a valid E.I. certification. The employee must also be capable of driving/operating a motor vehicle for company business, maintain a valid driver’s license and possess a clean driving record.
