MidWestOne Bank Internship in Belle Plaine, Iowa

This general scope of this internship is to provide the incumbent with exposure to a variety of business experiences in community banking. Areas of learning will be include a focus on branch banking: operations, deposits and loans, and customer service. Additional exposure in lending will include consumer, small commercial, and agricultural loans work with the Market President and Commercial/Ag Banker. Other areas include loan servicing and support for branch lending.

Internships will begin in May or June and last for 10-12 weeks.

  • Exposure to retail customer products and services including the opening and closing of accounts;

  • Use of bank technology and resources (ie. OnePops and OneView) to keep customer information current and inform them of additional ways we can meet their needs;

  • Customer service and problem solving related to deposit account transactions:

  • Introduction to a variety of additional retail services such as ATM/Debit cards (ie. ordering and closing cards, resolving transaction errors, handling fraudulent transactions); overdraft protection services; check orders, wires and other electronic transfers; online banking

  • Branch operations duties occurring on a daily, weekly, monthly basis (ie. opening closing duties, balancing of accounts, completion of night drop and mail logs, etc.

  • Learning the process of setting up consumer, commercial and home equity loans files for loan officers/personal bankers

  • Credit reports, title opinion requests, loan compliance assistance, loan policy guidelines

  • Review of loan documents; data input/stored in bank’s mainframe system

  • Loan maintenance check back, file documentation reviews, CIP check back, HMDA or other compliance reviews.

  • Input, updating and review of data/reports from the document imaging system (scanning and monitoring of image documents)

  • Reports and forms using Excel and Director.

  • Preparation of loan presentations for use by lending officers or committees to make lending decisions on new credit approvals and renewals.

  • Assessment of total risk pertaining to requests for new or additional credit through the analysis of financial statements and credit history.

  • Preparation of annual credit reviews for existing commercial customers including the review of tax returns, company prepared financials and audits.

  • Spreading of financial statements

  • Analysis of industry trends

  • Completion of impairment worksheets

  • Analysis of the bank's loan loss reserve adequacy

  • Identification and reporting; missing loan documentation.

  • Determining bank compliance with Federal and State banking laws and regulations pertaining to credit.

  • Monitoring and handling of delinquent credits and overdrafts, including any collections in process or repossessed assets.

  • Preparation of various written reports for bank management and board of directors.

  • Compiling the loan package including a review of loan agreements and adherence to policy.

  • Loan closing and funding activities.

  • Loan Agreements.

  • Relationship Banking

Must be currently pursuing college degree. Experience and knowledge in fundamental accounting and finance preferred. Interest in banking and/or Ag lending as a career preferred.
