UnityPoint Health Quality of Transcription - Office Coordinator in Bettendorf, Iowa

This position serves as the primary resource for Transcription Service. This position is a Medical Language Specialist who can transcribe and edit all types of dictation by physicians and other health care professionals. This position will be responsible for monitoring workflow of the transcription process.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Administers, maintains, educates, monitors and troubleshoots all activities for the dictation software systems

  • Maintains MCR transcription queues

  • Maintains Interface Error Work Queue in Epic

  • Finds addresses for out of town physicians to send out dictated reports

  • Soft delete dictation from the transcription service

  • Follows through to make sure it is typed in a timely manner

  • Maintains physician database for transcription system

  • Works with IT for set up and issues

  • System Administrator for Hospital Transcription system

  • Provides quality assurance activities on transcribed reports (grammar, spelling, terminology, missing words, and blanks) and check layout

  • Assures turnaround times are met on all document types from outside vendor

  • Collects and reports statistical data regarding transcription functions

  • Must be able to transcribe dictated reports as needed

  • Works with UnityPoint Health facilities and departments to standardize transcription process

  • Transcribes/Edits dictation accurately and efficiently

  • Responds to all transcription questions/inquiries with timely follow up

  • Demonstrates an understanding of medico-legal implications and responsibilities related to the transcription of patient records

  • Meets standards of professional and ethical conduct

  • Recognizes and reports problems, errors, and discrepancies in dictation and patient records to supervisor and/or appropriate healthcare provider

  • Informs supervisor of dictation which may be regarded as unprofessional, frivolous, insulting, inflammatory or inappropriate

Qualifications/Experience: 2-4 years of transcription experience in an acute care hospital environment encompassing multi-specialty areas. Minimum of two years previous experience performing quality assurance activities/methodologies and training experience. Recognized as possessing expert knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, medications and laboratory values related to a specialty or specialties. In-depth knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices. Speaks fluent English and has excellent skills in English usage, grammar and punctuation. Must possess strong analytical skills to perform work assignments requiring attention to detail, precision and accuracy in accordance with set deadlines. Ability to educate others (one on one or group). Excellent listening skills with an ability to understand diverse accents, dialects, and varying dictation styles. Must have moderate or advanced computer experience with multiple hospital software systems, including digital dictation systems (i.e. SharePoint, Microsoft Office applications, electronic medical records, etc.). Adheres to privacy and confidentiality policies for all internal and external customers. Demonstrates the ability to multi-task and work in an organized, efficient, and process oriented manner. Demonstrates the ability to adapt to change. Exhibits excellent oral communication skills and the ability to interact with customers and team members with diverse education, life style, and back grounds in accordance to the facilities mission, vision and values. Ability to write clear, concise, grammatically correct notes without close supervision. Ability to respond to customers in a respectful, timely and helpful manner
