To carry on these long-standing company values, we’re looking for an Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator (EHS) to be based in Brooklyn, Iowa.

Manatt’s EHS Coordinator will work to create and enforce a culture of safety and environmental awareness. The EHS Coordinator will work with other EHS professional to coordinate programs, policies, and assessments to ensure Manatt’s stays in compliance with all federal and internal environmental health and safety compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a liaison between senior management and employees on matters relating to safety and the environment.

  • Educates employees across our company through interactive training events both on-the-job and at full-company meetings.

  • Relates effectively and work respectfully with diverse work groups.

  • D irects the implementation of company environmental policies and practices to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and permit requirements as they apply to maintenance shops, bridge construction, and asphalt, concrete, and aggregate operations.

  • Assists with local and state OSHA inspectors and site inspection activities.

  • Responds to, lead the investigation of, and file necessary reporting for safety and environmental incidents.

  • Performs site inspections to assure tools, equipment, and personnel are safe, immediately halting any jobsite activity deemed to be imminently hazardous to personnel or property, bringing to the attention of the Project Manager and Safety Director.

  • Administers proper first aid and necessary subsequent medical attention for any injured employee.

  • Immediately reports any willful disregard of safety policy or instruction by any Company employee to the Project Manager, and Safety Director, fully documenting such situation.

  • Interacts with numerous agencies, clients, and employees to verify compliance, obtain approvals, conduct reviews and inspections, and prepare responses in a timely manner.

  • As directed by the Safety Director, conduct periodic inspection of company facilities and jobsites to detect existing or potential safety and/or environmental concerns and determine corrective or preventive measures.

  • Advocates for business priorities, requesting and negotiating permit variances as needed.

  • Reviews material and evidence prepared for use in reporting incidents, hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.

  • Consults with business leaders to make and implement decisions related to and maintain programs in air quality, solid waste, storm water quality, petroleum storage, and other areas of environmental concern, as needed.

  • Coordinates the acquisition of safety related equipment and materials.

  • Listens and coordinates with team members and available resources to ensure every team member can be their best self, analyzes and resolves work obstacles and assists in solving problems.

  • Inspires and promotes personal development goals of all team members.

  • Actively seeks new and innovative ways to create and improve safety and environmentally compliant work practices and standards to protect the company’s employees and assets.

  • Drives the evolution of our strategies to develop a culture of safety and environmental awareness and accountability in everything we do.

  • Represents company interests at DNR and other industry association meetings.

    Education/Experience Requirements

  • Four year degree in Occupational or Environmental Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Environmental/Civil Engineering preferred with at least three (3) years of building construction safety experience or equivalent education and experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques through completion of other related coursework and/or certifications is required.

  • Knowledge of and ability to assess how construction projects may impact soils, water, wildlife and/or fisheries.

  • G eneral knowledge of the USACE, USEPA, and state and local regulatory agencies, their respective permitting processes, and requirements.

  • Ability to manage in a dynamic team environment, work under pressure to meet deadlines, and work effectively and professionally in a variety of collaborations (with business leaders, regulators, public officials, consultants, clients, etc.)

  • Valid Drivers License with good driving record

  • Minimum of OSHA 30 hour training, First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED training.

  • Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to collaborate with a team.

  • Ability to manage multiple critical projects simultaneously.
