       POSITION TITLE: COACH - ASSISTANT QUALIFICATIONS: Hold a valid coaching endorsement as approved by the Iowa Department of Education. REPORTS TO: Activities Director CONSULTS WITH: 1. Head Varsity Coach 2. Activities Director POSITION GOALS: To assist the head coach in developing the junior varsity and varsity program in the respective sport. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Sets a positive example for athletes, including bench conduct and self-control. Emphasize the importance of practicing good sportsmanship to the athletes. 2. Coaches areas designated by the head coach. 3. Attends all practices and competitive events. 4. Be the coach in charge at JV contests and assist at varsity contests. 5. Assumes responsibility in the case of absence of the head coach. 6. Assists in the care and prevention of injuries. 7. Organizes and maintains health record cards for all athletes under the coach’s supervision and keeps these records on file in a trainer’s kit at all competitive events for quick reference in the event of injury to the athlete which may require medical attention. 8. Helps to issue, maintain, check-in, and store equipment. 9. Enforces policies set by the head coach, school board, or administration. 10. Attends an annual rules meeting to keep current with the rules of the sport. 11. Carries out any other duties which may be assigned by the head coach during practice sessions and/or competitive events. 12. Supervises locker room and practice areas before, during, and after practice. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary will be in accordance with provisions of the Employee Handbook. Work year will be established by the board with respect to job duties. EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Employee Handbook and board policy.
