Description:

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Establish required purchasing policies and procedures. Lead and manage direct materials used by Viking Pump, Inc. to secure sustainable competitive advantage while assuring compliancewithcorporate policy.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plays an active role in supplier contract negotiations.

  • Develops the skills and competencies of the Viking procurement organization.

  • Implements JIT and consignment inventory programs to maximize the on-time delivery of quality products while minimizing the inventory investment.

  • Provides necessary reports for determining material input and material variance forecasts.

  • Monitors monthly material input and reports on material inventory levels by commodity

  • Reviews purchased material variance reports and takes action as required.

  • Identifies potential global sources and assists in qualifying these sources.

  • Monitors market trends, the effects on Viking processes and material availability and cost, and forwards this information to the proper departments and process owners within Viking as required.

  • Manages supplier relationships to achieve Price, OTD, & DPPM goals

  • Works directly with Supplier Quality and Engineering on supplier issues and corrective actions

  • Travels as required to develop and maintain solid working relationships with global and domestic vendors.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Materials, or Industrial Technology.

  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years’ experience in a purchasing position or related experience in manufacturing, product engineering or machine shop quality.

  • APICS or CPM certificate preferred.

OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Documented experience successfully negotiating with Chinese and other international suppliers.

  • Familiar with sourcing of machined castings would be beneficial.

  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to read blue prints would be helpful.

  • Travel may be required 25% of the time, domestic and international.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook.

WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to move within office and manufacturing complex, write by hand and keyboard, and perform general office functions.

  • Ability to communicate by speech and hearing via phone and in person.

  • Visual acuity needed for close detail work and computer use.

  • General manufacturing, warehouse and office environment.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate with customers, suppliers and all levels of corporate and company personnel.

  • Interacts with all departments within Viking and the IDEX global sourcing personnel. Acts as the primary liaison between Viking Pump and its suppliers.
