Exploration Team Member I, (Driller Apprentice)

You will work closely with a lead exploration member on a drill rig to train and learn this job function. The work we do is critical in soil and groundwater evaluation leading into the design and construction process.

Essential Role and Responsibilities:

  • This is an entry level position designed to train the individual in the various aspects of becoming an exploration team member.

  • Acts as an assistant to the lead operator to help perform routine exploration tasks.

  • Drives medium duty trucks to various job sites.

  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.

  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.

  • Trained in duties pertaining to test borings, sampling, in-situ testing including CPT and SCPT exploration and/or installation of groundwater monitoring wells.

  • Some equipment maintenance (i.e. augers, bits, etc.), support equipment operation, basic survey equipment, and a general knowledge of reading civil plans.


  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Limited or no experience required.

  • Willingness to travel overnight as needed.

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

  • Ability to obtain Medical Card within first 30 days of employment.

  • Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions.

Desired Skills:

  • OSHA 10 and 30

  • 40 hour HAZWOPER

  • Class D License

  • CDL Class A, a bonus
