“Train Like You Fight, and Fight Like You Train” When a fighter pilot engages a real threat, the quality of their training can determine whether the mission succeeds or fails. Our pilots need effective, realistic training to prepare for the threats they face today – and those they may have to face tomorrow.

The Air Combat Test & Training (ACTT) Engineering Department specializes in developing state-of-the-art products for cryptographic, datalink, networking, and command and control applications. Focused on U.S. military communication systems, navigation systems, and networks, we guide products from concept phase through accreditation to factory production. This includes design, analysis, test, and certification, integrating them into the Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) Training Environment. Positioned in the Mission Systems business unit, our role involves addressing challenges such as developing next-generation secure aircraft instrumentation for the next generation, LVC for test and training, and crafting product roadmaps and architectures.

The US Training Systems Engineering Team within ACTT is looking for a Senior Cyber Engineer to join our team as we provide technical excellence in a rapidly growing Air Combat Training market for system of systems requirements, design, verification, accreditation, and sustainment efforts. As a platform-level systems team, we have direct customer and end-user interaction and coordination across subsystem teams and stakeholders. Our team culture is highly collaborative and uses a tailored version of the Scaled Agile Framework to meet our program goals. This role is located onsite in Cedar Rapids, IA. Eligible for Relocation.

What You will do:

  • YOU will support assigned program(s) in obtaining and maintaining Interim-Authorization-To-Test (IATT) and Authority-to-Operate (ATO) approvals for various systems.

  • YOU will conduct system audits, system baseline validations, perform technical security controls assessments to identify vulnerabilities and potential deficiencies, and implement remediation actions as part of the continuous monitoring program.

  • YOU Will Utilize vulnerability scan, port scan, compliance, and network analysis tools (e.g. SCC, OSCAP, NMAP, and Wireshark) to conduct in-depth analysis of systems hardened against the Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)

  • YOU will utilize tools such as JIRA, ALM, DOORS, Subversion, and PREP

  • YOU will be primarily responsible for implementing and enforcing security compliance directives (e.g., CNSSI-1253, NIST SP 800-53, NIST SP 800-171) with hands-on execution and oversight of assigned programs.

  • YOU will help drive resolution for technical issues through problem-solving and coordination across impacted teams.

  • YOU will have the opportunity to improve our approaches through sharing lessons learned with the team and department.

What You will learn:

  • You will obtain invaluable experience working with government certification agencies, our customers, and our subject matter experts across multiple departments, learning exactly what it takes to deliver a security hardened solution.

  • You will gain experience on a complex system of systems scale program working with the program leadership team at platform systems level.

  • You will gain exposure to multiple key technologies with opportunities to deepen your subject matter expertise in cybersecurity and related areas of the program.

  • You will have opportunities to influence and enrich the department culture as we continuously look to improve.

Education & Experience

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications you must have:

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

  • Previous exposure to Committee on National Security Systems Instruction (CNSSI) 1253 and NIST SP 800-37 Risk Management Framework (RMF).

  • Experience analyzing, decomposing, and allocating security controls into executable security requirements at the system, sub-system and component level.

Skills we value:

  • Active U.S. DoD security clearance.

  • Desired certifications: Security+ or CISSP certification.

  • Knowledge and/or experience with Security Hardening on diverse LINUX and Windows Operating Systems based on approved DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and Security Requirements Guides (SRGs).

  • Experience with the review and creation of mitigation reports from compliance and vulnerability scanning tools (Nessus, OSCAP, SCC, STIG Viewer).

  • Familiarity with systems engineering development process including requirements capture, design, decomposition, integration, verification, and validation.
