Role Overview

This position is for a Senior Software Engineer in the Advanced Flight Deck group. This group reports through the Military Avionics and Helicopters (MA&H) Advanced organization but supports all of the Avionics Strategic Business Unit (SBU) in maturing and transitioning technologies that enable advanced capabilities and functions across the organization. The team is cross-functional and composed of systems and software engineers with a variety of expertise. Areas of near term focus include development and application of current, next, and future technologies for both the military and commercial autonomy problem spaces.

As a software engineer you will be part of a highly motivated and extremely innovative team supporting the development of rapid prototypes and proof of concepts for internal and external demonstrations. This is a unique position where every day will be a little bit different with new challenges and problems to be solved allowing you to use a diverse set of skills and continue to learn new ones. Primary Responsibilities:

Contribute to development of proof of concept and software prototypes

Demonstration of our technology to diverse groups of technical and non technical people

Maintain our various labs and demonstration rigs

Exploring new technologies to support our prototyping capabilities


This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 3 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required.

Strong communication skills - translate technical ideas into business concepts

A Diverse background such as, or a willingness to learn:

Parallel computing

Microcontrollers such as Arduino or other embedded devices

Basic CAD design or 3D printing

Machine Learning

Image Processing

Experience in aviation such as pilots license or UAS Part 107 license

Experience with design, requirements capture, development, and integration of complex avionics software systems and hardware solutions

Experience with avionics development processes such as DO-178 or ARP-4754
