Collins Aerospace Mission Systems Advanced Technologies (MiSAT), Communication & Navigation Systems (CNS) is seeking a software engineering intern.

Collins Aerospace advanced technology groups focus on cutting edge department of defense research and development projects. As an advanced technology engineering intern, you will continually advance the state of the art through the research and creation of innovative system concepts and technological capabilities.

Position overview

This role consists of working with a group of highly innovative engineers towards the invention, development, and demonstration of new concepts and capabilities. This position entails the pursuit and development of cutting-edge Modeling and Simulation solutions that can quickly go from concept, to field demonstration, to fielded product. The applicant must be creative, highly self-motivated, have strong interpersonal, communication and networking skills

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the development of advanced networking systems/subsystems and developing innovative strategies

  • Supporting the development of new advanced networking concepts, targeting research organizations such as DARPA, DIU, ONR, CERDEC, AFRL, ARL, etc.

  • Supporting our team in the development and execution of external technology (R&D) programs as well as Mission Systems Advanced Technology internal research and development (IR&D) projects

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Software development experience using C, C++, Bash, or Python preferred

  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or other container technology preferred

  • Guild tools (Make, CMake, Ant, etc.)

  • Revision control systems (Git, SVN) helpful

  • Cloud based AWS or Google Cloud development experience

  • Embedded systems/software development

  • Knowledge of networking concepts and technologies including but not limited to: IPv4, IPv6, Routing, Unicast, Multicast, NAT, TCP, UDP, SSH, VPN, ACLs, ToS and QoS, etc.

  • Wireshark or other network analysis familiarity

  • Flight simulator experience

  • Aptitude in system requirements definition
