Alliant Energy Yard Manager - Railroad in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

4955BRJob Responsibilities:

  • Create work orders for train crews.

  • Communicate with connecting railroads on interchanges.

  • Build a strong culture of employee engagement.

  • Keep track of inventory and direct crews to blocking instructions.

  • Perform job safety briefings with train crews.

  • Verify customer spots and releases are accurate.

  • Perform yard inventory checks

  • Create turnovers and job safety briefings with various crews and coworkers.

  • Communicate with Supervisor of Train Operations and assist with projects and operations as needed.

  • Complete and remit all required reports and communication in a timely manner, both orally and written.

  • Read and respond to emails timely and accurately.

CRANDIC Rail, a Travero company and subsidiary of Alliant Energy, is currently seeking a Yard Manager - Railroad to work out of their Cedar Rapids, IA facility. This position is responsible for the daily coordination of train crews, tracking of railcar inventory and directly interacting and planning with internal departments and CRANDIC’s customers.

  • This position may require a shift rotation of 1st, 2nd and 3rd, or the working of a 2nd or 3rd shift. Working weekends and holidays is required.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.

  • This position is eligible for Federal Railroad Retirement benefits.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous dispatch or customer service experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated proficiency using computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office products.

  • Previous background working shift positions including nights, weekends and holidays.

  • Demonstrated experience managing and interfacing with internal and external customers.

  • Ability to work independently, in an unsupervised environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
