Job Description

The Cherokee Mental Health Institute (CMHI) in Cherokee, Iowa is seeking a skilled working supervisor to oversee facility maintenance operations.

CMHI is a 36-bed hospital collocated with the DHS Civil Commitment Unit for Sexual Offenders (CCUSO) which currently has approximately 120 patients. The 208-acre campus also has leased employee housing and leased business areas. The Maintenance Repairs Supervisor position is responsible for maintenance across the entire CMHI campus.

This is a mid-level management position that supervises a team of nine (9) trades workers that are responsible for an array of duties including plumbing, HVAC, boiler operation, generator operation, grounds keeping and snow removal on the CMHI campus. The position ensures timely completion of all maintenance and repairs in conjunction with an electronic work order system and the Maintenance Office Manager. The position also works with the Plant Operations Manager regarding Joint Commission compliance.

The ideal candidate will be proficient in plumbing, HVAC, boiler operation, troubleshooting and task management. In addition, the ideal candidate will have good communication skills and an understanding of employee supervision.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Experience equal to three years of full-time work in multi-trades building and maintenance;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting thirty semester hours of accredited post high school course work in a specialized building trade for each year of the required experience;

OR

employees withcurrentcontinuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time experience as a Carpenter 2, Painter 2, or Plumber 2;

OR

employees withcurrentcontinuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as a Maintenance Repairer, Electrician, Carpenter 1, Painter 1, Plumber 1 or Mason;

OR

employees withcurrentcontinuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work in any combination of the above.

Additional Qualification Requirements

Designated positions in this job class require applicants to obtain the required commercial driver's license and endorsements within a period of time as determined by the appointing authority at the time of hire.

Within a period of time as determined by the appointing authority, persons in this class may be required to obtain a license to perform electrical work in accordance with Chapter 103, Iowa Code.

Within a period of time as determined by the appointing authority, certain employees in this class may be required to obtain a Fire Sprinkler Installer and Maintenance License in accordance with Chapter 100D, Iowa Code.
