MercyOne is seeking a system-wide internal communications expert to join our team to advance our Mission of transforming the health of our communities. As internal communications manager, you will own team engagement by crafting opportunities and communications to inform and engage our more than 20,000 colleagues and providers. You will partner with a passionate team of marketing and communications colleagues and senior leaders to create content for in-person and digital internal channels and set benchmarks to measure success.

The ideal candidate thinks strategically, takes initiative, dives deep into details and is energized by juggling priorities. The successful candidate for this position is also composed in fast-moving situations, embraces ambiguity and changing tides, ramps up quickly on complex issues, and anticipates questions/reactions. Lastly, the right candidate should be self-motivated. This position is based in Clive, Iowa, with limited travel required.

What You’ll Do

  • Partner with executives and collaborate with a range of leaders across departments like human resources, advocacy, finance and legal to design impactful communications programs to inform and engage colleagues and nurture MercyOne’s culture

  • Develop and manage an internal communications plan and calendar in partnership with system and market-based colleagues to drive engagement, instill confidence and trust, and inspire team members through bi-directional platforms, including content which creates relevance for colleagues across all levels of the organization

  • Create clear, compelling narratives across multiple channels to inform and update colleagues on Vision, Key Results, strategies, initiatives, programs, events and changes

  • Produce internal communications customized to specific audiences, including newsletters, weekly enewsletters, leadership team presentations, talking points, videos, intranet content, huddle messages, meetings and more.

  • Own the MercyOne intranet strategy and supporting content

  • Lead system-wide events, celebrations and sponsorships such as Mercy Day, Hospital Week and Nurse’s Week

  • Provide best practices for consistent, optimized regional/local communications

  • Coordinate the MercyOne Colleague Store and appreciation items to advance colleague connections with MercyOne

  • Be an essential and trusted partner to leaders, providing feedback and coaching them to more effectively communicate, build trust, and cascade with context (examples: prepare and train leaders for media interviews and speaking engagements, coach leaders in business storytelling, becoming better communicators and executing compelling narratives around change)

  • Support recruitment of new MercyOne team members through innovative marketing and communications campaigns to enhance brand presence in collaboration with human resources and regional communications leaders

  • Measure and improve the effectiveness of messaging, channels and practices

  • Partner with colleagues and providers to identify new opportunities and develop innovative activations

What You'll Need

  • Experience leading communications strategy around organizational changes, crisis, and culture and has a track record of elevating day-to-day internal executive communications and team moments to deliver results

  • Experience creating metrics to measure communication effectiveness, reach and engagement

  • Strong copywriting and editing skills, including rewriting, optimizing, and editing content from subject matter experts

  • Ability to anticipate potential reputational issues and exercise high judgment, particularly in narrow time frames

  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to think and communicate clearly, formulate a clear point of view on complicated issues, and create a concise and well-written narrative

  • Confidentiality and business ethics; demonstrating outstanding judgment and discretion.

  • Proven ability to work with a team of cross-functional experts in multiple locations

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment, readily adapting to continually changing priorities, and optimizing per feedback and performance

  • Outstanding interpersonal, project management and prioritization skills

  • A collaborative, open attitude and a history of working in cross-functional teams

  • Commitment to improving daily and successfully adapting to changes

  • Dedication to leading by example

  • 3+ years’ experience in strategic communications or public relations -- either for a company or an agency -- as well as experience working firsthand with executives

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, journalism or a related field
