The Development and Volunteer Coordinator will work under the direction of the Quad Cities Coordinator with a dotted reported line to the Divisional Development Director in the development of fundraising campaigns, capital campaigns, foundation and private grants, and corporate partnerships. The Development and Volunteer Coordinator will also be responsible for communicating the Army mission, program and services through various media platforms and civic presentations; plan and coordinate special events, and recruit and coordinate volunteers, including training, placement, and recognition.
Develop a strategic plan for direction and implementation of local fundraising campaigns, community relations, and volunteer development.
Develop a strong donor cultivation plan by working with the Divisional Development team which includes the Divisional Development Director, Major Gifts, Planned Giving
Establish and meet realistic daily, weekly and monthly expectations for personal contacts with potential donors, prospective volunteer resources, media, corporations, foundations, and other potential benefactors of The Salvation Army, and provide monthly contact reports, and maintain and record all donor actions into the CRM database weekly
Manage and monitor the effectiveness of direct mail and makes recommendations to the Quad Cities Coordinator
Solicit, write, track and report on all private and United Way grant proposals, in coordination with Divisional Development staff
Develop and implement a robust volunteer outreach, including recruitment, training, placement, tracking, and recognition coordination, for special events, Christmas bellringing, EDS, etc.
Attend Advisory Board meetings and serve as a liaison for Advisory Board development committee, and assistin planning and carrying out strategic community engagement
Assume overall responsibility for the creation, planning and implementation offiscally soundspecial events (e.g. annual civic dinner, Salvation Army week, Donut Day, Birdies for Charity, Stuff the Bus, Project Bundle Up, Red Kettle Campaign) and other events fostering public awareness, donor cultivation and recognition activities.
Individually and also with support staff, present the story, mission and needs of The Salvation Army to community leaders, groups, organizations, and media on various media platforms, including web page and social media.
Create, prepare and communicate annual reports, marketing material and press releases, and follow up with media interviews when possible.
Attend quarterly Divisional Development meetings
Maintain professional status and current knowledge in development, community and public relations fields.
Maintain positive work atmosphere through appropriate conflict management, courteous demeanor, and professional and appropriate communication practices.
Maintain compliance in The Salvation Army’s “Safe from Harm” Certification.
Perform other duties as assigned as related to work in Development and Volunteers.
Travel may be required.

Candidates must have a passion for fulfilling the mission of The Salvation Army and must be articulate in presenting the same to others.
Candidates must successfully pass the pre-employment background inquiry and annual motor vehicle check with a valid driver’s license.
Bachelor's degree preferred, significant related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Ability to efficiently and effectively manage time and projects successfully.
Team player, self-starter, and perform well with minimal supervision.
Must have an interest and ability to work with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and work as a cooperative team member.
Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience in using email, MS Office applications, Internet and Social Media platforms.
Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary. Especially in emergent situations.
Physical Demands/ Work Environment:
This Position is required to do basic business and office work. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the individual is regularly required to talk and listen, stand, walk, sit and use hands. Individual must be able to regularly lift up to 30 pounds and occassionally lift up to fifty pounds. The use of Office and Computer Equipment is necessary. Vision abilities will require close vision. Work may be performed indoors and occasionally require outdoors to attend meetings. There is low to moderate noise level for this position.
