General Clerk Responsibilities ? Performs routine, recordkeeping tasks ? Transforms information from one record to another, such as writing patient identification taken from medical records on the outside of file envelopes of folders. ? Prepares lists of activities in the department, such as posting on a standardized form the names of patients admitted to center. ? Cross-indexes documents and records by following a prescribed coding system and copying information on file cards. ? Sorts documents according to subject matter and arranges them in alphabetical, numerical, or chronological order. ? Files materials; Looks up information or retrieves materials from files as requested. ? Maintains files by making appropriate entries when materials are added or removed. ? May answer telephones, take and relay messages, make appointments, answer limited questions, and sort/distribute mail. ? Performs any miscellaneous work assignments as may be required.
