Cobham Mission Senior Training Specialist - Instructional & eLearning Developer in Davenport, Iowa


Cobham Mission Systems in Davenport, IA is seeking a Senior Training Specialist.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the Training and other managers to identify and address training needs:

  • Conduct needs assessments to determine the training requirements for employees and the site

  • Research subjects, evaluate training material, produce in-house content for online or classroom delivery

  • Maintain branding requirements for program components per the Training Department templates

  • Manage the development and delivery of multiple learning projects simultaneously

  • Develop criteria, requirements, and content for online, classroom, and on-the-job training programs

  • Develop criteria and assessment tools for evaluating the effectiveness of training activities

  • Develop assessment methods and artifacts to evaluate the effectiveness of employee training

  • Evaluate progress of training attendees and provide feedback to the training and employees’ mangers

  • Support the administration of Cobham's learning management system (LMS)

  • Ensure learning programs’ requirements are achieved and delivered on established schedule

  • Develop and maintain training tracking systems to ensure training requirements are documented

  • Coordinate the training activities for the facility’s internal trainers, SMEs, peers, and managers

  • Be customer-focused to ensure the effectiveness and support of the organization’s employees

  • Support internal and external audits related to training requirements, as needed

  • Able to perform training pertaining to various subjects, if necessary

  • Plan, schedule, record attendance, and run report on training, as required

  • Set up training events and ensure all class material and requirements are met prior to the events’ start

  • Keep abreast of training and development best practices on learning theory, methods, and techniques

  • Is able to learn and adopt new training development technologies and delivery methods

  • Self-motivated, able to perform peer project reviews, and work with little to no supervision

  • Other training related tasks that may include scanning, word processing, data entry, filing of training records, as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • 7+ years of training curriculum development experience

  • 7+ years of experience in instructional design or related field

  • 2+ years of experience with training authoring tools for online and instructor-led delivery, such as Articulate, Adobe software, or similar products.

  • 2+ years of experience with MS Office products, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook


  • This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by export laws of the US. In order to be eligible you must be either a US Citizen or Permanent Resident

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree

  • Experience with Web and multimedia technologies

  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with learning or content management systems

  • Experience with process improvement methods in a manufacturing environment

  • Excellent writing and grammar skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Demonstrated training projects management skills

  • Ability to lift 20 lb. occasionally

  • Ability to work in an office, lab, and indoor industrial environment

  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes in electronic assemblies would be a plus
