Assistant Director of Leadership & Counseling

General Purpose of Job:
The Assistant Director of Leadership & Counseling will assist the Director of Leadership and Counseling in the following areas: Assist in the development and delivery of individual and group counseling services on campus, and offer quality referral to community services as appropriate. Provide mental health education, training, and programming on campus. Assist with the development and training of student leaders at Grand View University through leadership education, mentoring, and program development.
Essential Functions of Job:
Counseling
15-20 direct counseling hours per week
1-2 hours staff/supervision meetings per week
3-6 hours psycho-educational programming and development per week (i.e. group counseling, educational groups of interest)
Oversee campus mental health education and Mentors in Violence (MVP) programming.
Establish community mental health contacts and referral base
Assist in coordinating and providing freshman orientation education
Assist in providing staff/student mental health support training
Assist in counseling administration and program development
Student Leadership
Assist in the provision of student leadership training, program development, and delivery of services
Advise Peer Counseling student leadership team
Co-advise the Student Leadership Team
Support and provide consultation to student leadership team advisors
Overall
Participate in continuing professional development
Participate in miscellaneous efforts and collaborative projects as a representative of Student Life.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Master-s degree in counseling, psychology, or social work required. Licensed mental health counselor or social worker preferred.
Experience providing crisis intervention, diagnosis, and psychological evaluation in a college setting preferred.
Experience in leadership training and development required.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to express oneself effectively in both oral and written communication.
Working Conditions:
Requires lifting of up to 30 pounds
Requires occasional after office hours on evenings and weekends for student leadership programs and crisis counseling.
Ability to move around campus.
