Job Summary:

The School of Education’s Department of Leadership and Counseling is thrilled to launch a search for an Assistant Professor of Practice. This is a non-tenure-track, consecutive-term 9-month appointment which will start August of 2024.

Responsibilities include teaching in the principal preparation, superintendent preparation, and doctoral programs; leading all facets of program administration for the superintendent licensure program; advising at the graduate level; advising doctoral student dissertations and capstones; and service to the department, the school, and the university.

Our new colleague will be responsible for teaching three courses in both the fall and spring semesters, all facets of program administration, supervision and coordination of internships and required field base hours for licensure students, and student recruitment.

In addition to teaching, our new colleague will assist with program coordination and administration through involvement in hiring program adjuncts, onboarding adjuncts, scheduling courses, marketing the program, and recruitment and admission of students. Our new colleague will also have advising responsibilities including advising doctoral students on dissertations (PhD/EdD) and capstone projects (EdD). There will also be clinical work including supervising students in the field for their clinical hours toward the K-12 administrator licensure.

This position does not have a research requirement, but there will be opportunities for service activities. Given Drake’s size and culture, we are interested in individuals who, through their service, will be interested in seeking out and supporting collaborative committee work in other academic units as well as university-wide committees.

Qualifications:

• Applicants for the position must have superintendent and principal licensure in Iowa or another state.

• Applicants for the position should have a Master’s degree in the area of education, those with a PhD, EdD, or Ed.L.D. will be given preference.

• Applicants should have experience as a school administrator (e.g., principal, superintendent).

• Experience working with diverse populations and a sincere commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

• An interest in exploring opportunities for cross-departmental collaboration in teaching and service.
