Job Description

The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs is looking to fill a Graphic Design and Website Internship (Administrative Intern) to assist the state.

Internship Purpose and Goals

The Graphic Design and Website Intern is responsible for providing support for the marketing and communications department through a variety of channels including print and digital. The intern will report to the Graphic Designer and Website Manager and will assist with developing create materials for the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, including the Iowa Arts Council and State Historical Society of Iowa.

The intern will also perform various website updates utilizing Drupal and make updates to the Iowa Culture mobile app as needed.

Time Commitment - Duration: Spring 2019 Semester - Frequency: Minimum of 4 hours per week,unpaid

Duties and Essential Activities

  • Must be proficient in graphic design programs including Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.

  • Knowledge of basic HTML

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Organized, dependable and detail oriented.

  • Writing and proofing skills are a plus.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Preference to applicants

  • Pursuing a degree in design, communications, or related study.

  • Must conduct oneself in a mature/professional manner and be able to work accurately and efficiently with minimal supervision.

  • Experience with computer skills and camera use is a plus.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants for positions in this class must be currently enrolled students in a degree program at an accredited educational institution, as determined by the Iowa Department of Administrative Services – Human Resources Enterprise.
