Job Title: Hy-Vee Fitness Manager FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function:

Oversees operations of this 24 hour fitness facility including preventative maintenance of fitness equipment, development of personal training programs, memberships, member orientation, and marketing Hy-Vee's health and wellness message.

Reporting Relations:

Accountable and Reports to: Store Director

Direct Reports: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the facility.

  2. Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner.

  3. Makes an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible.

  4. Assists customers in every way possible to enhance the fitness experience.

  5. Maintains a positive attitude; creates an atmosphere of friendliness and fun through flexibility and teamwork. Generates a friendly atmosphere by encouraging employees to greet and speak to customers; providing prompt, courteous, and efficient service to customers and sets a good example.

  6. Sets the department standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, professional appearance and overall profitability.

  7. Oversees daily operations at facility, including equipment maintenance and record keeping.

  8. Sells memberships and actively seeks new members.

  9. Conducts new member orientations.

  10. Trains members on use of equipment.

  11. Responsible for marketing efforts including website, social, and print advertising.

  12. Develops personal training sessions for members.

  13. Answer phone calls and replies to emails.

  14. Assists members with assessment of physical fitness and fitness goals.

  15. Reports to work when scheduled and works expected number of hours.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Performs other job related duties and special projects as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Scheduling work hours, creating and maintaining a teamwork atmosphere with employees.

Education and Experience:

A four year degree in Exercise Science/Kinesiology, Health Science, Health Promotion, or certification as a personal trainer is preferred. Two years of experience in sales and fitness industry. Proficient skills on a computer using Microsoft products including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Physical Requirements:

Ÿ Must be physically able to perform sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.

Ÿ Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.

Ÿ Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Ÿ This individual must have the ability to teach and demonstrate the use of gym equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

• Must have the ability to solve practical problems; variety of variables with limited standardization; interpret instructions.

• Must have the ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.

• Must possess the ability to understand and follow verbal or written instructions, compose original correspondence; interview to obtain basic information; and have increased contact with people.

• This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, extreme confidentiality, accuracy and the ability to meet multiple deadlines. Some accounting experience beneficial.

Working Conditions:

The duties of this position are performed in an office/fitness setting. There is frequent pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects in a day.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

Proficient skills on a computer using Microsoft products including Word, Excel, and Outlook. All varieties of exercise/fitness equipment.

Financial Responsibility:

Financial responsibility in regards to cash register, selling memberships and training sessions.

Contacts:

Has daily contact with the general public, marketing efforts, assisting members, employees, and working with store personnel.
