Drake University Head Start is seeking an internal candidate for a Lead Instructional Coach to work with the Head Start classrooms. This position requires both content and instructional expertise in the area of early childhood education and provide oversight of other agency Instructional Coaches, coaching data and monitoring. The Lead Instructional Coach will work with classroom staff to increase child outcomes and effective teacher practices. This position, with the focus on individual and group professional learning, will expand and refine the understanding and practice of research, and evidence-based, effective instruction and assessment. This position will provide support based on identified goals and needs of the program. Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured through the University's insurance carrier required.
Function Percent Description
01 30% Oversee, coordinate, deliver, evaluate, and/or monitor professional coaching via established model to include relationships, staff motivation, positive management strategies, instruction, curriculum, and assessment. Provide oversight of other agency Instructional Coaches and coordinate with the Early Childhood Program Coordinator to ensure coaching services and coaching goals are being attained. Provide leadership for the coaching team and ensure that goals are set, evaluated and attained for program staff per established coaching model. Manage time and schedule flexibility to maximize teacher schedules and learning via in person consultation and technology. Travel for business purposes within identified service area.
02 20% Facilitate the reflective, intellectual, and professional growth of teachers, in individual and group settings, with a focus on improving student achievement through classroom-based and home instruction based coaching and modeling, best practice, differentiated instruction, and fidelity of implementation. Serve as co-chair to the agency Professional Development committee to assist with the establishment of training and technical assistance plans, professional development maps, onboarding processes, and provide training and professional development as needed based on program data and goals.
03 20% Utilize effective oral and written communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills for building an environment with a common instructional focus that promotes initiatives and conveying expectations. Empower staff and encourage team effort through creation of positive relationships. Develop and maintain a confidential, collaborative, and collegial relationship with partners, staff and the community.
04 10% Gather, collate, analyze, and classify accurate data to disseminate reports to provide information and/or recommendations as needed.
05 10% Research and reflect upon a variety of topics (e.g.- technology, instructional strategies, best practice, assessment, etc.) for the purpose of evaluation and utilizing current trends, technology, and tools related to educational improvement.
06 0% Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations, rules and requirements. Ensure the confidentiality of all documents maintained in the department and at assigned locations. Promote broad understanding of Drake University Head Start's philosophy, initiatives, vision and its relationship to stakeholders and the community in a positive professional manner. React to change productively, maintain prompt and regular attendance, and perform all other duties as assigned.
Master’s degree in early childhood education or related field required. Experience in coaching or teaching leadership, minimum of 3 to 5 years experience as an instructional coach or as a lead teacher in an early childhood setting utilizing research or evidence based instructional practice. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite required. Current Iowa teaching license with early childhood endorsement preferred. Experience with Head Start and childcare licensing regulations and design and delivery of quality professional development for administrators and teachers. Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured through the University's insurance carrier required.
