Principal Portfolio Manager - Principal Global Fixed Income in Des Moines, Iowa
As a Portfolio Manager, you’ll actively participate in the formulation, execution and management of the investment outlook, strategy, and portfolio construction of assigned fixed income investment strategies. In addition, you’ll support thought capital creation, new business development initiatives, and business profitability. Decisions made in this position can have moderate impact on the overall financial health of Principal Global Fixed Income, a boutique within Principal Global Investors.
Other things you’ll do:
Co-manage /manage daily activities of small and/or less complex client accounts/funds within established investment policy guidelines. This includes buying new assets, monitoring performance of existing investments, and assessing sale opportunities while ensuring appropriate portfolio diversification and liquidity.
Act as spokesperson in client update meetings, due diligence meetings, finals presentations with prospective clients and consultants, and in internal committees. Represent Principal Global Fixed Income investment capabilities and competitive advantage to prospects and clients. Contribute client-driven and profitable product ideas and provide support to product development, product management, distribution and marketing staff as needed.
Maintain broad knowledge of financial markets, current events, and global/U.S. economies and analyze their impact on industry/sector fundamentals. Monitor industry and competitive environment through research of market intelligence and insights to proactively identify new opportunities, trends, emerging issues or threats. Proactively develop and foster relationships with industry contacts (e.g. Wall Street analysts) to ensure constant flow of information

We’re looking for someone with:
Bachelor's degree in technical field or equivalent. (i.e. finance, accounting, economics, statistics, engineering, data science, business analytics).
3+ years' work experience with fixed income strategies in a trading, research, portfolio specialist or portfolio management capacity.
Strong knowledge of global economies and investment theories, fixed income investments, and related regulatory requirements.
Ability to build and maintain strong relationships and negotiate
Ability to make decisions quickly and effectively in a highly competitive environment with incomplete information, use independent judgement, anticipate client needs and establish priorities.
Self-motivated, client-drive, competitive, results oriented and have excellent planning, delegation, and time management skills.
Some travel required
MBA and/or CFA designation or progress toward.
Familiarity with database structures, big data techniques (ie Cassandra, Spark and Hadoop), and programming languages (ie Python, MATLAB, R).
Keen sense of curiosity and forward-thinking thought process desired.
