Kemin Industries Scientist - Human Health & Nutrition in Des Moines, Iowa


Kemin Industries is looking to hire a Scientist responsible for developing, coordinating, and executing the research plan for the development of products for the human dietary supplement industry. In this role, you will perform research that includes the development of natural production extraction methods, analytical chemistry methods, and product specifications to meet customer needs. The position requires close collaboration with a cross-functional team of marketing, regulatory, quality, and engineering/operations team members. This position will manage multiple research projects along with the assistance of their research associates.

  • Independently lead multiple R&D projects.

  • Manage and mentor research associates to reach project milestones and developmental goals.

  • Must be able to actively identify and lead research areas that could lead to new product development or process improvement, with minimal supervision.

  • Identify internal and external opportunities to obtain new intellectual property and evaluating external intellectual property and freedom to operate issues.

  • Participate in strategic planning and customer meetings.

  • Generate scientific publications and research reports in multiple formats used for internal or external purposes.

  • Must adhere to laboratory standard operating procedures, documentation and guidelines.


  • A combination of advanced education and experience preferably in natural product chemistry and product development.

  • PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related scientific field with 5-7 years of relevant experience.

  • Master’s Degree with 10+ years of relevant experience in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related scientific field

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 15+ years of relevant experience in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related scientific field

  • Must have a solid understanding and adherence to the Servant Leadership philosophy

  • Detail oriented, organized, skilled at prioritizing, and motivated by accomplishment

  • Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment

  • Ability to interact well with others in a team environment.

  • Strong experimental design, problem-solving, and analytic skills.

  • Good written and oral communication skills that are suitable for external presentations.

  • Advanced computer knowledge (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Fluent in English
