Principal Sr Associate Accountant in Des Moines, Iowa

Principal is currently recruiting a talented individual, who possesses both high integrity values and initiative, to fill a Sr. Associate Accountant role. This role is a great opportunity for someone looking to deepen their knowledge of investments and systems. The role is on our investment accounting team which is responsible for the daily and monthly accounting for our consolidated (General Account) derivatives, fixed income and alternative investments. Functions on the team include cash application, reconciliations, valuation, corporate actions, security builds, and impairments. In this role responsibilities will include:

  • Daily cash and derivative items including reconciliations

  • Researching, analyzing and following-up on open or outstanding items

  • Prepare, analyze, research and communicate financial information to ensure accurate reporting and control functions.

  • Prepare and maintain process documentation while ensuring controls are followed.

  • Performing other job-related duties or special projects as required.

Meeting deadlines as well as balancing multiple priorities and tasks will be key in this role. We are looking for an individual who embraces change, challenges the status quo and actively participates in generating new ideas.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent experience is required.

  • CPA or other applicable certifications preferred.

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience.

  • A good understanding of Statutory and GAAP investment accounting principles is preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of PC and systems capabilities/techniques including proficient working knowledge of Excel.

  • Excellent problem solving, math, and data analytics skills.

  • Must be detail oriented and have strong organizational skills.

  • Must be able to meet established deadlines, work in a fast-moving environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Perferred qualifications include:

  • Demonstrates the ability to accept and adapt to a changing environment.

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of derivatives or fixed income investments

  • Knowledge of PAM for Investments

  • Experience with SQL is a plus.
