Principal Financial Group Sr Infrastructure Engineer (Emphasis on Capacity Planning) in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

Work with Product owners and Global sourcing to plan for and facilitate acquisitions for IT hardware and software including the following activities:

  • Maintain Capacity and Consumption/usage data

  • Maintain accurate inventory information and plan for lifecycles

  • Forecast, size, license, monitor, and project growth

  • Perform analysis, observations, trending

  • Monitor software license compliance

  • Along with Global Sourcing, provide requirements and facilitate the purchase / renewal process including Bid/RFP, quoting process for hardware and software

  • Interpret complex bill of materials, quotes and/or contracts and validateaccuracy

  • Maintain cost history and unit cost over time

  • Gain management approval for purchase

  • Forecast Financials and operate within budget

  • Communicate financial impacts to IT and IT Finance

Who You Are

  • You have a Bachelor's degree (preference in a computer science, technology, engineering or math-related field) or equivalent experience, plus 6 years of relevant experience.

  • You are analytical, detail oriented and comfortable working independently

  • Able to make recommendations and decisions with limited information

  • Able to communicate with all levels of the organization

  • Ability to challenge and influence suppliers, build relationships that result in positive outcomes

  • You are curious and open to learning.

Skills That Will Help You Stand Out

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of infrastructure technology concepts and components

  • Mainframe, x86, Storage, Network, OS

  • Virtualization

  • Cloud IaaS, PaaS

  • Understanding of complex license models, virtualization concepts, datacenter deployments/configuration.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of ITSM processes including Capacity Planning & Performance Management and Configuration Management

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and database query language

  • General finance and accounting concepts, principles, acumen

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$95200 - $182400 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.
