Job Description

Only applicants who meet the Minimum Qualification Requirements and meet all selective requirements will be placed on the eligible list.

TheIowa Department of Public Healthis looking to fill a Typist Advanced to assist the state.

The successful candidate willprocess applications for vital records requests accepted at the front customer service window. All requests (except genealogy) will be processed immediately to ensure same-day service.

Will review and enter all the application information into the Statewide electronic vital records system, Iowa Vital Events System (IVES) via PC. Will enter 40 applications or more into the IVES system via PC per business day. Will reject all applications immediately if lacking entitlement, application information or payment. When applications are accepted, will issue pick-up receipts to each customer. Will retrieve the correct order when a customer presents a pick-up receipt. Is responsible for verifying the identities of all individuals who submit in-person applications for certified copies of vital records.

This position will account for funds received during shift at the front window. Participates in auditing processes as outlined in office funds policies to include daily auditing of fees.

This position requires knowledge of entitlement as outlined by Iowa Code and Administrative Rules. Will be able to make decisions regarding entitlement in accordance with these laws and rules.

Gross number of words typed in a five minute timed test

Number of errors

Net words per minute (one point deduction for each error)

Your name and date must be on the document submitted to this office.

And it must signed off by a witness or another person not just from the typing websites electronic signature. You may attach the document to the online application.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • The ability to type at least 40 words per minute, as verified by a typing test, and experience equal to one year of full-time clerical office support work.

  • The ability to type at least 40 words per minute, as verified by a typing test, and a total of one year of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where one year of post-high school course work in an accredited secretarial, business, or closely-related curriculum or 30 semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience.

  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as a Typist.
