Job Description

The Iowa Utilities Board is seeking to fill aUtilities Regulation Inspectorposition within the Safety and Engineering section to assist the Board and staff. This is a permanent, full-time, and contract-covered position.

Duties involve protecting the public safety and examining utility electric system reliability through inspection of the facilities and operations of electric utility companies for compliance with Iowa Code chapters 476 and 478 and Utilities Board rules including 199 Iowa Administrative Code chapters 11, 20, 25, and 27. Additional duties will include inspection of electric facilities filed in petitions for electrical franchises to ensure complete and accurate information.

The successful candidate must be a self-starter who can organize daily workload and be able to work independently without immediate supervision when in the field. Good oral and written communication skills are required. Applicants must have or be prepared to develop computer skills necessary for document preparation and electronic communication.

Experience with electric utility operations and safety programs is preferred, and strong knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code is a plus. A valid driver's license and ability to drive an automobile also are required. The position involves considerable travel and often three to four overnight stays a week.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Two years of experience in the inspection, supervision, construction and/or operation and maintenance of private or public utility installations and facilities, including natural gas pipeline and/or electric transmission and distribution facilities;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year (thirty semester hours or its equivalent) of post high school education in engineering technology for one year of the required work experience to a maximum of two years.
