As a Lifeguard, you will have the opportunity to provide everyone with a safe place to swim, learn, grow and play. You will maintain a safe swimming environment in the pool, on the pool deck and the surrounding areas. Enforce rules and procedures.
Keep pool and pool deck free of obstructions and safety hazards.
Maintain constant surveillance of the water and pool deck areas.
Handle equipment as assigned to ensure safety.
Record chemical readings.
Know emergency procedures and is able to demonstrate them.
Maintain emergency equipment.
Respond to all emergencies.
Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staffperson.
Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodiedin the mission statement and values.
Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions

American Red Cross CPR-PR/AED/First Aid Certifications or equivalentcertifications approved by the YMCA (available in the YMCA Training Program)
American Red Cross Blood Borne Pathogens Training orequivalent training approved by the YMCA (available in the YMCA Training Program)
American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (available in the YMCATraining Program)
Must be at least 15 years of age (15 year olds are required to have a work permit on file with the Iowa Division ofLabor and the YMCA of Greater Des Moines Human Resources Department.)
