ITW Group Leader - Shipping in DeWitt, Iowa

The Shipping Group Leader prepares product for domestic and/or international shipment to customers, vendors, and other company locations. Directly works on shipment of products with department associates to coordinate Shipping Manager’s directives, including scheduling, implementation and maintenance of workflow, and task/job assignments. Must maintain proper efficiency at all work stations maintain good attitude and set example of proper work ethics.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Pick customer orders and packing slips in priority. Delegate responsibilities to team members.

  • Provide leadership to the shipping team.

  • Supervise shipping functions in department and provide scheduling/work direction to shipping personnel.

  • Must be able to perform duties to lead group in a variety of routine duties to include receiving, UPS, trucking, international orders and crating. Interact with office and production personnel.

  • Identify and correct obstacles that would interfere with shipping schedules.

  • Responsible for maintaining inventory levels by adhering to the Kan-Ban inventory program

  • People supervisory duties such as approving timecards, counseling employees, coaching, training, career development, performance management and other supervisory tasks as required by the organization.

  • Recommend and relate employee relations to Shipping Manager, Operations Director and HR.

  • Maintains shipping and receiving materials by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed materials; placing and expediting orders for materials; verifying receipt of materials.

  • Instruct/train employees within department to include new hires and transfers plus cross-train individuals within the department.

  • Assist as necessary and substitute for personnel within group during vacations and absences.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • 3-5 years shipping experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment required.

  • Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience required.

  • Shipping and handling of hazardous material experience preferred.

  • Computer literate with a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel).

  • Flexibility to work overtime as business conditions warrant.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents (safety rules, work instructions, operating procedures).

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated numerical and written communication skills.

  • Ability to lift up to 55 lbs. independently.
