UnityPoint Health Manager Nurse-Obstetrics/Pediatrics in Fort Dodge, Iowa

Key Accountability

· Demonstrates support for the mission, philosophy, and goals of UnityPoint Health-

Trinity Regional Medical Center.

· Assumes accountability for staff compliance with hospital policies and

values/standards of behavior.

· Assumes accountability for staff compliance with nursing standards.

· Maintains compliance with Det Norske Veritas (DNV) standards and external

regulatory requirements.

· Is familiar with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) / Emergency

Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) regulations related to clinical

and structural measures

· Serves on/chairs Committees

· Coordinates unit Performance Improvement/Risk Management activities and

provides report to leadership.

· Assesses and maintains staff education, orientation, and competency programs

and assures compliance with required programs.

Conducts regularly scheduled departmental/unit meetings. · Promotes an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors. Ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and staff. Investigates and coordinates corrective measures to prevent reoccurrence of injuries and accidents. · Regularly rounds on patients and staff to define areas of satisfaction/dissatisfaction and follows up to improve areas of dissatisfaction · Facilitates and fosters cooperative relations between all departments of the organization · Communicates effectively with senior staff, physicians, other managers, staff, patients, and community. Maintains positive interpersonal skills with staff, physicians and all constituencies

Planning: · Develops annual goals and objectives · Develops strategic plan Organizing: · Develop and revise structure to meet goals Budget/Controlling: · Prepares and operates under a departmental operating and capital budgets · Manages departmental operating costs to maintain budget guidelines and manages productivity · Plans and manages the effective and efficient use of human resources · Purchases equipment and supplies and manages the inventory and distribution of supplies within unit budgets Staffing/Scheduling: · Recruits and selects unit staff in conjunction with the Human Resources department · Ensures units are adequately staffed and facilitates education to staff as necessary · Identifies and develops staffing plans · Develops and maintains staff schedule Directing/Evaluating: · Develop system to measure areas effectiveness · Manages day to day operations · Provides functional advice and control to areas of responsibility · Evaluates staff performance · Conducts employee counseling and disciplinary action in a manner consistent with hospital policy Coordinating: · Ensures proper communications and plans are coordinated between units and other areas of the organization · Oversees development of educational programs for OB/Nursery/Pediatric staff to meet needs as determined by job descriptions, employee and departmental needs, management request, new equipment, and the result of performance appraisals. Decision Making: · Facilitates and develops proficiency in conducting observations, completing A3s, and problem solving on the units.

Education:

BSN required

Experience:

Two years staff nurse experience required in OB, Nursery, and/or Pediatrics.

License(s)/Certification(s):

Current RN Licensure in State of Iowa or applicable compact state. Must be licensed in state of residence.

CPR and ACLS certification required. NRP or PALS required. Refer to Job Description Addendum. Electronic and mechanical patient care equipment, office equipment, medications, including controlled substances and therapeutic gasses. Computer programs utilized by staff, for staffing needs and ordering supplies. PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: gloves, eye protection, protective gowns, and masks.
