CLASSIFIED STAFF JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Food Service Manager

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or the equivalent

  • Must pass required background checks and physical

  • Background in an area related to school or retail food service.

  • Must complete ServSafe Certification.

  • Ability to develop and maintain harmonious and productive working relationships.

  • Ability to compile and analyze data.

  • Considerable knowledge of food production techniques, preparation and serving practices.

  • Must be able to operate all food service equipment.

  • Must be able to read, write, and follow oral and written directions in English.

Essential Function:

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.

  • Must be able to withstand heat and fluctuations in temperature..

  • Must be able to work simultaneously with both hands.

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to pass a food handler physical.

Reports To: Director of Food Service

Consults With: Building Principal

Position Goal: The manager is in charge of the food service program in one kitchen and works under the direction of the School Food Service Director.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Attendance is necessary to be successful in this position.

  • Participates in the hiring process.

  • Evaluates assigned employees.

  • Disciplines employees, subject to review by Director in more severe situations.

  • Makes decisions on staffing needs and requirements.

  • Supervises and assists in the production, service, and storage of food.

  • Requisitions food orders and supplies.

  • Monitors food production and service to assure that planned menus are used and that meal pattern requirements are met.

  • Maintains a file of Standard Recipes, Production Records, HACCP Records and instructs personnel in the use of the recipes.

  • Assists in outlining specific duties and work schedules for all employees.

  • Establishes and maintains standards of sanitation and safety.

  • Instructs and supervises employees on the job, including the correct use and maintenance of equipment. Plans the use of equipment for efficiency and economy.

  • Cooperates with Superintendent, Director, Principals, Faculty and Staff in developing goals and objectives of the school food service program.

  • Creates an atmosphere in the school lunchroom that facilitates participation of students and faculty in the lunch program.

  • Maintains good public relations with students, parents, faculty, and community.

  • Participates in and promotes inservice training, conferences, and continuing educational programs.

  • Participates in disciplining and evaluating kitchen personnel.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment: Days students are in school and as needed for special meals. Wage schedules shall be subject to annual review and modification by the Glenwood Board of Education or through the collective bargaining process, where one exists.

Evaluation: Director of Food Services evaluates yearly.
