The MENTOR Network Maintenance Specialist in Hiawatha, Iowa

REM Iowa, a partner of The MENTOR Network, provides services for adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities and other complex challenges.

As a Handyman/Maintenance Specialist with REM Iowa, you will maintain 5 - 8 bed ICF/ID properties/services for sites in the Cedar Rapids area.

Ensure that all grounds and equipment are in good working order to ensure a safe, attractive and enjoyable living and working environment for the individuals we serve. Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee ongoing preventative maintenance of 4 residential programs (including but not limited to: Repair and maintain interior and exterior of facility and grounds, kitchen and laundry appliances, other mechanical equipment, heating and air conditioning units, electrical and plumbing fixtures, and painting. Assigned programs are located in Cedar Rapids, Coralville and Washington.

  • Plan and schedule work assignments to accomplish workload with available resources and equipment. Coordinate with outside contractors to ensure quality of work delivered. Analyze and resolve complaints pertaining to services, and equipment in area of responsibility

  • Work with building inspectors, fire marshal, and vendors. Maintain fire alarm system, including smoke and heat detectors, and fire pull through coordination of applicable vendors. Assist with safety and disaster plans as appropriate.

  • Perform other related duties and activities as required.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, typically 8a - 4p

What we require of you:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Working knowledge and ability to handle a range of maintenance needs, tools, and equipment

  • One year related work experience preferred

  • Valid Iowa Driver's License

  • Proof of insurance

  • Willingness to travel between sites as needed

  • Must be self-directed, able to work independently, and must be dependable and punctual.

  • Successful clearance of local and/or state background checks
