UnityPoint Health RN-Child Protection Center in Hiawatha, Iowa
The Child Protection Center is a multidisciplinary outpatient clinic, which provides medical and psychosocial evaluations for suspected victims of child sexual and child physical abuse. The CPC nurse is responsible for assisting the physician with all examinations and medical follow up services. The Behavioral Developmental Center is a multidisciplinary outpatient clinic, which provides evaluations of attention deficit disorder and other behavioral disorders in children and adolescents. The BDC nurse is responsible for assisting the physician with all evaluations and with providing follow up services to the children and their families.
Is aware of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (eg. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of department or hospital administrative staff.
Purposefully conducts all aspects of the job in an ethical manner in support of the hospital’s commitment to ethical behavior in all areas of personal and professional activity.
Responsible for establishing and maintaining positive relationships with all children and families served by the Child Protection Center, with the community partners of the Child Protection Center and with the staff of the Child Protection Center and St. Luke’s Hospital.
Responsible for assisting the physician in obtaining the medical and social history, including gaining awareness of the child’s social, emotional and developmental functioning.
Responsible for assisting in the collection of medical evidence while supporting the child through the process.
Responsible, in collaboration with DHS and law enforcement personnel, for sensitive and creative referrals of patients and their families to community service organizations and/or the CPC Patient Advocate for ongoing treatment and services.
Responsible for participation as a team member in conferences on behalf of patients with other community service agencies
Responsible for pursuing progress in the areas of legislation regarding child abuse, prevention of child abuse, professional training and coordination of community child abuse services
Responsible for other assignments as may be deemed appropriate by the Manager of the Child Protection Center
Completion of an accredited nursing program
Possesses a current Iowa RN license
Previous pediatric experience preferred
Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with children and adults
Ability to work as a team member and to work independently
Knowledge of child development
Maintain current BCLS certification
Demonstrates skill, organization, and efficiency in performing required patient care activities
