JOB TITLE Head Custodian Elementary School

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision of the Facilities Director, assigns, review, coordinates and inspects custodial activities in the area of assignment in accordance with established guidelines. Supervisor is available on short notice to assist in the resolution of problems.

DEPARTMENT Facilities

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must posses a valid Iowa Drivers License.

  2. High School Diploma or equivalent.

  3. Two years of custodial or related experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Able to lift 25 lbs on a regular daily basis to perform job.

  2. Able to lift 50 to 75 lbs occasionally to perform job.

  3. Able to lift 100 lbs on occasion.

  4. Able to push and pull objects up to 75 lbs.

  5. Physical work is 90% of duties.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Able to work in all types of weather conditions

  2. Able to walk, kneel, bend, and twist to complete obligations.

  3. Ability to monitor radio messages while doing other work throughout the building and grounds assigned.

REPORTS TO Facilities Director

SUPERVISES 1-3 Full Time Custodians

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Twelve month work year with wages and benefits established annually by the Board.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy 411.7 Classified Employee Evaluation.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Confers with Facilities Director and receives written and oral instructions concerning general custodial duties.

  2. Develops work schedules and directs and inspects daily work routine of other custodians.

  3. Maintains inventory of custodial supplies, and keeps and prepares other records and reports as directed.

  4. Assists in planning procedures and work methods and advises or recommends revision for the purpose of improving the efficiency of operations and services.

  5. Performs custodial duties.

  6. Knowledge of standard cleaning techniques and characteristics of surfaces to be cleaned, and equipment and supplies requested.

  7. Ability to move furniture and objects in preparation for cleaning, to load and unload trash receptacles; to operate safely and properly care for power machinery.

  8. Knowledge of proper bending and lifting techniques.

  9. Ability to work in a variety of environments including crowded public areas and high and low temperature areas.

  10. Knowledge of safe use of chemical cleaning agents and possible hazards relating to environmental sanitation.

  11. Ability to lead, train and motivate employees.

  12. Ability to write and maintain routing records and reports such as employee attendance, supply usage, and repairs needed.
