Assessment & Qualifications Manager, Cloud and Hosting Services in Iowa City, Iowa

Position Summary

As Manager, Cloud and Hosting Services, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and support of the Evaluation Systems cloud infrastructure in AWS as well the operations of its on-premises data center.

Using industry best practices, you will work closely with the software development, architecture, and cybersecurity teams to support the automation and deployment of applications and infrastructure aligned with business objectives. You should have technical experience in building infrastructure and applications for security, scalability, resiliency, availability, and recovery. Part of your role will be to help move from a traditional infrastructure deployment model to an infrastructure as code model with automation and monitoring via DevOps.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in cloud infrastructure methodologies and techniques including:

  • Design, implementation, and support of infrastructure as code

  • Research new cloud technologies and prototype solutions that can be leveraged to decrease costs and increase performance

  • Mentor existing staff on cloud computing best practices and technology to drive cloud adoption

  • Identify and solve complex problems involving hardware, software, networking, and applications

  • Manage a small team of network, database, and cloud engineers

  • Monitor and measure system performance

  • Perform day-to-day systems administration activities such as user administration, disk management, package installations, and scheduled task development

  • Document systems design and processes

  • Install and configure infrastructure tools including automation tools, job schedulers, authentication and authorization software, monitoring solutions and backup tools

  • Utilize best practices and tools to secure cloud and data center environments

  • Participate in an on-call rotation schedule after hours and on weekends

  • Respond to end user tickets

Skills and Desired Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills may be acquired

  • 10 years of relevant experience in system design, technical architecture, systems administration, and/or software development

  • 3-5 years’ experience in AWS cloud computing-based services architecture

  • 2 years as a lead or in a management role

  • Expert level understanding across cloud and infrastructure components (server, storage, network, data, and applications) to deliver end to end cloud infrastructure architectures and designs

  • Experience with administration of virtualization systems such as VMware

  • Experience with Windows operating system configuration, automation, and management

  • Experience with monitoring and analytical tools

  • Experience with network infrastructure (firewalls, load balancers, switches, routers, etc.)

  • Experience with storage systems (NAS, SAN, object storage)

  • Experience with administration of network services (DNS, WINS, TCP/IP, DHCP)

  • Experience with certificate management (client certificates, server certificates, certificate authorities, etc.)

  • Programming experience (C#, Java, etc.)

  • Shell scripting (PowerShell, Python, Bash, etc.)

  • Excellent technical analysis and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be flexible to meet time demands without compromising quality

  • AWS certification preferred

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the Colorado, California, Washington State, New York State and New York City laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:

The minimum full-time salary range is between $120k - $130k.
