Zurich is currently looking for a CROP Intern to work out of ourRural Community InsuranceServices (RCIS), Portfolio Optimization Group in our Iowa Territory.

RCIS provides insurance and superior services through leading agents to protect America’s farmers and ranchers. It’s been an innovator in crop insurance since the crop insurance business was privatized by the federal government in 1980. Today it’s one of the nation’s largest crop insurance providers, offering risk management protection in all 50 states through a national network of about 4,000 professionally trained and licensed agents.

This intern will work under immediate supervision and perform requested tasks alongside professionals who perform these roles. Generally, this position is part of a summer program with an assigned mentor.

  • Learn about crop insurance industry/program

  • Inspecting and assessing crop hail and wind damage, doing appraisals, and learning programs.

  • Crop adjusting experience and analyzing crop conditions and stages of growth.

  • Learn company purpose, values, strategy and behaviors

  • Engage with various team members to accomplish their work and duties and build an understanding of the team’s dynamics

  • Provide feedback on experiences and learning opportunities promptly

  • Proactively collaborate with immediate team members

  • Communicate with mediums/channels

  • Work with others to determine next steps and information requirements after identifying an issue

  • Respond to suggestions for resolution by asking appropriate questions to clarify understanding

  • Confirm deadline and expectations with others for work deliverables

  • Double-check work for missing or incomplete information

Other development opportunities:

  • Gain exposure to common data and information sources

  • Working directly with insureds on explaining crop damage and crop development.

  • Demonstrate attention during discussions by taking notes and asking questions to clarify the message

  • Look for learning opportunities and experiences to support your development

  • Write objectives you hope to gain from the internship

Basic Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelors program and will be enrolled in the fall of 2021

  • Two or more years of college coursework (should be a rising Junior or Senior)

  • Minimum cumulative current grade point average of 3.0 (current could mean last semester GPA)

  • Be legally eligible to work in the U.S indefinitely

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Any Agriculture related degree.Ag Econ, Ag Business, Agronomy, Etc.

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Problem-solving skills in a customer-focused environment

  • Quick Learner

  • Experience in a leadership role

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently

  • Strong interest in the insurance industry
