Corteva Agriscience Research Associate - Nursery Multicrop/Mulitifunctional in Johnston, Iowa

As a Research Associate (RA) at Johnston Research Center, you will be a key contributor to a variety of activities. Your primary responsibility will be to be a part of the Nursery functional team and provide support for overall multicrop/multifunctional responsibilities.

Responsibilities - What You'll Do:

  • Participate as a multicrop/multifunction team member for all SPD, Biotech, and other functional accountability.

  • Sampling lead for all crops and field trials.

  • Would need to support pollinating activities.

  • Able to assist in hand harvest for seed production activities.

  • Understand and lead shelling for all team responsibilities.

  • Able to assist with other nursery responsibilities that include delays, stand counts, maintenance, rouging, discards)

  • Able to work with team members to help map out fields and detail experiments by deadlines.

  • Able to assist or lead other aspects of nursery or efficacy experiments throughout the growing season

  • Be able to communicate effectively with all team members/stakeholders to understand both nursery deadlines and other functional groups deadlines.

  • Work across Johnston team functions to support other activities at the site/along with support of other assigned research projects.

  • Assist with research center projects and research seed production activities, including seed preparation for planting, winter nursery deadlines, seed sampling, and other overall support for the research center to be successful. These are critical times for the success of the research program, so weekend work and overtime will be required during peak periods.

  • Willingness to manage and direct the work of temporary and seasonal employees.

  • Contribute to maintaining a safe and respectful work environment.

  • Willingness and ability to operate a forklift

Qualifications

Requirement - What You'll Bring:

Bachelor's degree in agriculture or scientific field preferred. Experience in Agronomy, Biology, Plant Breeding, or a scientific-related field preferred.

  • Technologically Savvy: Competency with standard Microsoft Office programs and capacity to learn new technologies and software. Handling of large volumes of data will be required.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with diverse groups of people.

  • Results Driven: Self-motivated and able to initiate projects, improvements, decisions, and problem-solving. Detail-oriented, strong time management and organizational skills.

  • Safety Oriented: Commitment to excellent safety and risk management practices.

  • Keep in mind, that equivalent amounts of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the above requirements

Physical Requirements - What You Will Need

  • Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds.

  • Willingness to work in varying environmental and ergonomic conditions including fieldwork, etc.

  • Willing and required to be able to work a flexible schedule including overtime hours including weekend work required during seasonal peaks and able to perform shift work if needed/applicable.

  • Driver's License, acceptable driving record required
