VAN BUREN COUNTY COMMUNITY SCHOOL DIST Anticipated School Nurse in Keosauqua, Iowa

Van Buren County CommunitySchoolDistrict has the following anticipated opening: 1.0 FTESchoolNurse-RN. This position serves students at the Douds elementary buildings.

Essential Functions of the job include but are not limited to: 1. Conductschoolhealth service, including tests for vision with K-6 grade students and others on request; biannual height and weight with students K-12. 2. Assume responsibility for selection and referral of students in need of medical and dental care. 3. Report to parents,schoolpersonnel, physicians, clinics and other agencies onschoolmedical matters. 4. Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students. 5. Assume authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness. 6. Participate withschoolstaff in developing and implementing a totalschoolhealth program. 7. Advise on the modification of the educational program to meet health needs of individual students. 8. Advise on the exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infections and contagious diseases. 9. Advise teachers on health matters, particularly regarding screening for student health problems. 10. Assistschoolpersonnel in monitoring theschoolenvironment for student safety. 11. Attend committee meetings and conferences regarding health service and health curriculum. 12. Conduct in-service training programs; train staff in blood-borne pathogens education and arrange for Hepatitis B shots. 13. Coordinate the Wellness Program. 14. Is a certified CPR instructor and helps teach CPR to students and faculty. 15. Teach health education program concerning puberty for 5th grade girls. 16. Serve as Level I alternate investigator for suspected child abuse cases. 17. Assist with the kindergarten round-up program on health issues and immunization requirements. 18. Dispense student medication. 19. Demonstrate organization and professionalism in fulfilling the responsibilities of the job. 20. Greet all students, faculty, staff and visitors courteously. 21. Maintain a positive rapport with students, staff, parents and the community. 22. Cooperate with and work in a courteous manner with co-workers and other personnel. 23. Dress appropriately for the position and work required. 24. Demonstrate a positive attitude towardschool, students and job and communicate the same to the community. 25. Accept constructive criticism and suggestions and seek to improve each performance responsibility. 26. Maintain confidentiality in the sschool operation. 27. Adhere to applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations; board policies; and administrative rules. 28. Serve as a member of theschool's Crisis Team and assist the principal with all matters relating to same. 29. Act as liaison with helping agencies such as the Department of Human Services, etc. when assigned to do so. 30. Maintain accurate health records for all students to include mandatory immunization certificates. 31. Assume primary responsibility for maintaining an appropriate inventory of medical aid supplies in theschool. 32. Participate in medical examinations and review findings to evaluate health status of pupils and progress of program. 33. Cooperate withschoolpersonnel in identifying and meeting social, emotional and physical needs ofschoolchildren. 34. Counsel students in good health habits. 35. Work with community agencies in planning facilities to meet needs of children outsideschoolsituation. 36. Assist in program for care of disabled children. 37. Assist with Medicaid claims.

Qualifications: Individual must hold a valid state license to practice as a RegisteredNurse. The individual must be a certified CPR instructor.

Physical Requirements: Theschoolnursewill be required to stand, walk and sit. The individual may be required to lift up to 50 - 75 lbs.

Work Environment: This position may include exposure to bloodborne pathogens, hazardous materials and infectious diseases.
