Lehigh Hanson is seeking a Production Supervisor for our Mason City, Iowa cement plant. Are you looking for a long term position with a stable company? If so, then look no further. Reporting to the Assistant Plant Manager, the Production Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of personnel in the daily operations of the process departments according to operating principles, company policies and procedures.

NOTE: Currently this is a D shift position working rotating 8 hour shifts.

  • Supervises and directs hourly personnel.

  • Properly administers all plant policies and adheres to conditions of the collective bargaining agreement.

  • Ensures production goals are met and in compliance with company policies and procedures.

  • Works with the quality control department to meet product specifications.

  • Ensures compliance with safety and environmental matters.

  • Diagnoses delays in operations and takes appropriate actions to restore correct operating procedures.

  • Ensures timely call-out of required personnel. Generates work order notifications and follow up of critical equipment issues.

  • Coordinates repair work with mechanical and electrical maintenance personnel.

  • Maintains plant records and logs.

  • Conducts safety and training meetings.

  • Must complete all assigned work in compliance with all federal, state and local regulatory requirements (i.e., MSHA, DOT, DOL, etc.), including safety programs administered at a State or Local level where allowed by the Department of Labor. Must maintain awareness of surroundings at all times and perform their work in a safe and productive manner. In the event of a workplace incident, immediate notification to a manager as well as an incident report is required.

Who we are looking for:

  • Minimum high school education required. Preferably a college degree in associated sciences.

  • Prefer 5 years cement plant operating experience.

  • Safety is priority and individual leads by example.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and interact as a team member.

  • Leader personality with ability to motivate workforce.

  • Strong supervisory skills desired.

  • Working knowledge and technical understanding of cement manufacturing process and equipment preferred.

  • Innovative thinker with problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Basic PC skills.

  • Ability to make timely and critical decisions and deal with multiple tasks.

  • Kiln Burning experience is a plus.

  • Proficient in use of mechanical, electrical and diagnostic skills.

  • Knowledge of MSHA regulations and guidelines.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS

Will regularly be exposed to each of the following:

  • Employee must be able to function in an office environment as well as the company’s industrial environment, including the environmental conditions described below and the physical demands of working/auditing at the plant level (standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, climbing, crouching or crawling).

  • Employee is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.

  • Occasional use of personal protective equipment, including a respirator.

Specific vision abilities required by the position include:

  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).

  • Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more).

  • Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).

  • Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point).

  • Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships).

  • Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).

Will frequently be exposed to plant environment conditions which include:

  • Wet or humid conditions.

  • Working near moving mechanical parts.

  • Working at heights, sometimes in precarious places.

  • Fumes or airborne particles.

  • Toxic or caustic chemicals.

  • Outdoor weather conditions.

  • Extreme cold and extreme heat (non-weather).

Industrial risks similar to those experienced by operations personnel including noise, dust, electrical and machine risks, large equipment and vehicles, and occasional work in enclosed spaces.
