The Risk and Accreditation Specialist scope includes the hospital and clinics. This position is responsible for promoting a culture of safety; proactively mitigating risks; actively investigating incidents to identify and facilitate improvement opportunities; and managing and coordinating accreditation activities in compliance with regulatory and accrediting bodies (State, Federal, The Joint Commission), and in alignment with Trinity Health and MercyOne initiatives.


  1. Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, with active Iowa license. Masters’ Degree preferred.

  2. Certification in Healthcare Risk Management required or completed within three years of hire into the position.

  3. Minimum of five years’ health care quality/safety/regulatory experience required.

  4. Knowledge of healthcare operations, safety components, and processes within healthcare.

  5. Knowledge of patient safety, culture of safety, and just culture.

  6. Strong leadership abilities.

  7. Excellent ability to effectively manage projects and initiatives with measurable results.

  8. Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork, bring together diverse groups in a collaborative and effective manner.

  9. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  10. Thorough understanding of the leadership challenges and processes inside hospitals.

  11. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

  12. Ability to successfully influence/persuade others without authority or control over them.

  13. Ability to use sound judgment and deductive reasoning.

  14. Maintain highest professional standards and ethics.

  15. Ability to successfully operate in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

  16. Possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity and caring with the ability to inspire and motive others.
