GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

Kirkwood Community College Jones County Regional Center (Monticello, IA) seeks a skilled enthusiastic individual to join our faculty to teach concurrent credit courses in the Transportation Career Academy for the 2019-2020 academic year. The Adjunct Instructor position pays $1,184/ credit hour. Courses of instruction could include: Introduction to Automotive Technology, Industrial Math, Automotive Electricity, Maintenance and Light Repair. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge base in their discipline and teaching experience at the community college level is desirable. Primary duties will include teaching assigned class (es) and communicating with Regional Center/department staff, students and faculty.

Must be available to teach daytime classes.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Automotive Technology Academy Courses include:

AUT-100 | Maintenance & Light Repair | 4 credits

Provides knowledge of the skills necessary to successfully perform common maintenance and light repair tasks in engine systems, automatic transmission/transaxle, manual drive train and axles, suspension and steering, brakes, electrical, and heating and air conditioning.

AUT-104 | Introduction to Automotive Technology | 3 credits

Provides the beginning apprentice technician with an introductory overview of automotive servicing from a maintenance and replacement standpoint. Emphasizes routine maintenance procedures in the care of tires, batteries, lighting, belts, hoses, filters and cooling systems through classroom and hands-on activities. Presents career information on career pathways, employers, goal setting, skills inventory, student club information and personal plan.

AUT-611 | Automotive Electricity | 5 credits

Introduces electrical and electronic circuit theory. Covers voltage, amperage, resistance, Ohm's Law and practical application on series, parallel and series-parallel circuits. Emphasizes circuits through electrical wiring diagrams and introduces scan tools and digital storage oscilloscopes. Covers diagnosis of electrical circuits with and without multiplex network control. Includes certification as power users of the Snap-on 525D multi-meter.

MAT-715 | Industrial Math I | 3 credits

Covers basic math skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers, decimals and fractions. Covers specifically dimensional analysis and significant digit concepts. Provides practice by solving stated problems and covers introductory algebra concepts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver practical hands-on instruction in discipline.

  • Effectively organize, prepare learning activities for assigned courses in accordance with established syllabi.

  • Evaluate and record student performance/achievement on a regular basis and provide regular student feedback.

  • Request and maintain instructional equipment and supplies for classroom and laboratory use.

  • Communicate with department staff, students, and faculty on a regular basis.

  • Assist with student recruitment and orientation activities.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

  • Exhibit strong mechanical skills and the ability to effectively manage groups of students working on individual hands-on assignments

  • Abide by and enforce safety rules when in a lab setting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Special training and at least 6,000 hours of recent and relevant work experience in the occupational area or related occupational area in which the instructor teaches classes if the instructor possesses less than a baccalaureate degree.OR

  • Baccalaureate or graduate degree in the area or related area of study or occupational area in which the instructor is teaching classes.

  • Successful teaching experience preferred.

  • Basic computer skills required.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Applicant must be G1 (Maintenance and Light Repair) and A6 (Electrical) ASE Certified and work towards becoming ASE Master Certified. Applicant must obtain factory credentials in Chrysler, Honda and Subaru during first year of teaching.

  • Must have a valid driver's license.
