Serve special needs children and child care providers of Muscatine, Henry, & Washington counties as a Public Health Nurse Child Care Nurse Consultant (CCNC)! 1.0 FTE M-F days, extensive travel required, IA RN licensure required. The CCNC will work with child care providers and early education programs on health and safety consultation, training, and technical assistance. This position will train child care providers and staff on health related topics, complete child screenings and assessments, provide guidance on health issues and individual health plans, and review child health information. Additionally, he/she will provide community education on public health issues as needed/appropriate; provide population based health services; provide direct patient care and care coordination in assigned clinic or service area; may work directly in the areas of communicable diseases, chronic diseases, maternal health, immunization, child health, family planning, and community education.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Technical Assistance

· Technical assistance through phone, emails, or onsite visits to child care providers and early education programs to assess, provide support, and technical assistance for the Iowa Quality Rating System (QRS) process, health, nutrition, and safety education, medication administration, policy development, safe sleep practices, and care for children with special needs. Maintain communication for receiving and disseminating child care health and safety information.

Community Outreach

· Contact licensed, registered, and non-registered child care providers and facilities and market CCNC services. Develop and maintain linkages with child care regulatory personnel and child care partners. Connect child care providers to community resources for children and families.

Reporting

· Data gathering and tracking, report writing

Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Education:

Associate or Bachelors of Nursing degree.

Completion of the Iowa Training Project for CCNC within 3 months after hire.

Experience:

Demonstrated ability to build relationships, organization, communication, and documentation skills.

License(s)/Certification(s):

Current RN license to practice nursing in Iowa is required.

Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
