MercyOne Newton Medical Center is a fully owned hospital of MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center and a member of MercyOne Network.

It is located in the city of Newton, Iowa, county seat of Jasper County. Positioned on Interstate 80, the nation’s only east/west transcontinental interstate highway, Newton is about 30 miles east of the Des Moines metropolitan area, which has a population in excess of 400,000.

Our campus in Newton has 48 beds and about 200,000 square feet of space. Attached to the hospital is a 50,000-square-foot medical office building containing local physician practices and the hospital’s physical medicine and rehabilitation center.

Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY: Provides nutrition counseling by referral from physicians in the outpatient setting. Plans and implements appropriate nutrition education for the Cardiac Rehab and Diabetes Education Departments. Assists in development and implementation of Employee Wellness Programs for Skiff employees and Jasper County Businesses.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides nutrition counseling in the outpatient setting.

  • Appropriately promotes the Wellness Program throughout the community.

  • Is actively involved in the wellness and education needs of Skiff Medical Center employees through cooking classes, lunch and learns and incentive programs.

  • Provides Diabetic Nutrition Education.

  • Provides Cardiac Rehab Nutrition Education.

  • Cooperates with others and works as a team member.

  • Performs all duties in an independent manner without need for direct supervision.

  • Maintains an enthusiastic and positive attitude.

  • Ability to backup co-workers in other areas, including clinical, during absence.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Food/Nutrition or Dietetics

EXPERIENCE: Experience in dietetics and wellness preferred. Continually seeks out further education to grow professionally and to improve the position.

LICENSURE: Licensed by the State of Iowa. Registered by the American Dietetic Association.
